How to Get the Cryogenic Crusher and What It Crushes
The Cryogenic Crusher in Palworld: the level 54 unlock for 2 Technology Points, its 50 Pal Metal Ingot and 25 Cryogenic Coolant build cost traced back to 350 raw Ore, every conversion it runs including 2 Ore into a Paldium Fragment, and the best Cooling Pals to staff it.

The Cryogenic Crusher is the level 54 upgrade to the old water-wheel Crusher, and the only building in Palworld that turns raw Ore straight into Paldium Fragment. This guide covers the unlock cost, the full build bill traced back to raw materials, every conversion the machine runs, and which Cooling Pals to put in front of it.
Cryogenic Crusher at a Glance
It sits in the Production tab of the build menu, one slot to the right of the Crusher you have had since level 8. Three things separate the two. The new one runs on electricity instead of a water wheel, it wants a Cooling Pal instead of a Watering Pal, and its build carries a 100,000 workload against the old Crusher's 8,000 — over twelve times the bench time before a single Ore goes in. The payoff is that Ore becomes a Paldium source, which the original machine never did.

How to Unlock the Cryogenic Crusher
Reach character level 54, open the Palworld Technology Tree and spend 2 points. Check which pile they come out of before you panic — these are ordinary Technology Points, not the Ancient ones that so many late-game buildings demand. The level 54 row holds eight unlocks, seven of them ordinary technologies sharing 24 normal points between them, and the Crusher is the second-cheapest thing on the whole row behind a stack of Gatling Gun Ammo. If you are hovering at level 54 wondering what to buy first, this is the least painful purchase there.
| Level 54 unlock | Cost | Point type |
|---|---|---|
| Gatling Gun Ammo | 1 | Technology |
| Cryogenic Crusher | 2 | Technology |
| Gildane Saddle | 3 | Technology |
| Celesdir Saddle | 4 | Technology |
| Plasma Multicutter | 4 | Technology |
| Gatling Gun | 5 | Technology |
| Cold Resistant Plasteel Armor | 5 | Technology |
| Extra Weapon Holster 2 | 5 | Ancient Technology |
Cryogenic Crusher Build Cost
Four materials go on the build panel and every single one of them is crafted — there is nothing here you can pick up off the ground. Two come off benches you already own, and two are Production Assembly Line chemistry that most players have never touched by level 54. Plasteel is the heaviest line by bench time at 200,000 workload a bar, so the 30 on the panel is six million workload on its own.
| Material | Qty | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | Electric Furnace — 4 Ore + 1 Pure Quartz + 2 Paldium Fragment per bar | |
| 30 | Electric Furnace — 2 Crude Oil + 5 Ore per bar | |
| 25 | Production Assembly Line — 1 Aquatic Pal Fluids + 1 Ice Organ each | |
| 20 | Production Assembly Line — 1 Venom Gland + 1 Sulfur each |
Expand every sub-craft and the real shopping list is the table below. 350 Ore is the headline number, and the funny part is the 100 Paldium Fragment buried inside the Pal Metal Ingots — you are spending Paldium to build the machine whose whole job is making Paldium. At the crusher's 2-Ore-per-fragment rate it earns those 100 fragments back off 200 Ore, so the building pays for that line of the bill within an afternoon of mining. Total bench time across every intermediate step plus the build itself comes to roughly 9.15 million workload, which is a job for a Advanced Workshop crew rather than your own two hands.
| Raw material | Total needed | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| 350 | 1,632 ore nodes on the map | |
| 100 | 711 paldium ore nodes, or the Crusher you already own | |
| 60 | 185 oil fields with a Crude Oil Extractor parked on one | |
| 50 | 607 pure quartz nodes, mostly in the snowfields | |
| 25 | 32 Ice Pals drop it, or ranch it — see below | |
| 25 | 37 Water Pals drop it, or ranch it — see below | |
| 20 | 17 poison Pals drop it, or ranch it — see below | |
| 20 | 655 sulfur nodes in the volcanic and desert regions |
Cryogenic Coolant and Corrosive Solvent Are the Real Gate
45 crafted chemicals sounds worse than it is, because all three organ inputs can be produced at a Ranch instead of hunted. Foxcicle is the standout — a Lv. 3 Ice Organ producer, the highest ranch rating for that material in the game, and it happens to have Cooling Lv. 4 so the same Pal can staff the crusher when the ranch is full. Kelpsea covers the fluids and Depresso covers the venom, both at Lv. 1. If you would rather fight for it, Frostallion drops a flat 10 Ice Organ every kill, which clears the entire coolant requirement in three fights.
| Input | Needed | Ranch it | Or kill for it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 | Foxcicle — Lv. 3 | Frostallion 10 per kill, Kingpaca Cryst 3-6 | |
| 25 | Kelpsea — Lv. 1 | Suzaku Aqua 5 per kill, Azurobe 2-4 | |
| 20 | Depresso — Lv. 1 | Menasting 5-10, Shroomer Noct 4-8 |
Everything the Cryogenic Crusher Makes
The menu splits into four jobs: turning Wood into Fiber, turning rock and Ore into Paldium Fragment, recycling spheres back into Paldium, and resizing Pal Souls. Ore is the line that justifies the build — the original Crusher's panel only breaks down Stone and Wood, so before level 54 there is no way to convert an ore haul into capture materials. Every conversion here is cheap in bench time, 1,000 workload or less, so a single decent Cooling Pal keeps up with a full chest of input.
| Input | Output | Workload | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 | 500 | Cheapest conversion on the machine |
| 2 | 1 | 1,000 | The reason to build it |
| 5 | 1 Paldium Fragment | 1,000 | Inherited from the Crusher |
| 1 | 3 Paldium Fragment | 1,000 | Best ratio in the game, but Meteorite Fragments are finite |
| Any Pal Sphere | 1-30 Paldium Fragment | 1,000 | Scales with sphere tier — full table below |
Pal Souls | One size up or down | 1,000 | Lossless in both directions |
Ore into Paldium Fragment
Ore is two and a half times better than Stone per unit crushed, and it is the only reason to keep this building powered. The context that makes it matter: paldium ore nodes are the scarcest common resource on the map at 711 pins, against 1,632 ore nodes and over 8,000 rocks, and a lot of the best base spots have plenty of ore with no paldium anywhere nearby. Crushing Ore lets a mining base make its own capture spheres without a supply run. Stone is still worth queuing if your Pals are hauling in rock faster than you can spend it, since 5-to-1 on a resource you drown in beats 2-to-1 on one you are short of.
| Input | Per fragment | Map supply | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.33 | No nodes — drops and events only | Best rate, worst supply | |
| 2 | 1,632 nodes | The workhorse conversion | |
| 5 | 8,157 rock nodes | Wasteful per unit, but you never run out |
Recycling Spheres Back into Paldium
Every sphere tier can be fed back in, and the return climbs steeply with rarity. This is what to do with the drawer of low-tier spheres you stopped throwing 30 levels ago — a stack of 100 Pal Spheres is 100 fragments back. The high end is where it gets interesting: a Sol Sphere or Ancient Sphere returns 30 fragments each, thirty times what a basic sphere gives and sixty Ore's worth of crushing in one go. That said, do not shred spheres you would actually throw at a legendary — the crusher is for dead stock, not for your capture kit.
| Sphere | Paldium Fragment back |
|---|---|
Pal Sphere | 1 |
| 1 | |
| 2 | |
| 3 | |
| 5 | |

Pal Soul Conversion
Souls go both ways at a flat 2-to-1, so eight Small Pal Souls become one Giant Pal Soul and one Giant breaks back down into eight Smalls with nothing lost either direction. That symmetry is the whole point — there is no penalty for guessing wrong, so never sit on a pile of the wrong size waiting for a use. Small Souls are what dungeon chests and low-level kills hand out by the hundred, and this machine is how they become the Giant Souls that Statue of Power upgrades actually want.
| Input | Output | Direction |
|---|---|---|
2 Small Pal Soul | 1 | Merge |
| 2 | 1 | Merge |
| 2 | 1 | Merge |
| 1 Medium Pal Soul | 2 Small Pal Soul | Split |
| 1 Large Pal Soul | 2 Medium Pal Soul | Split |
| 1 Giant Pal Soul | 2 Large Pal Soul | Split |
Best Cooling Pals to Run the Cryogenic Crusher
The bar is low — Cooling Lv. 1 — so all 38 Cooling Pals qualify, and the suitability level decides throughput. Bastigor is the outright answer at Lv. 8, the only Pal in the game with that rating, and being medium-sized it does not hog base space the way the whale-tier options do. Frostallion at Lv. 7 is the next rung if you have already beaten it. Below that, pick on second jobs rather than raw Cooling: Pierdon Cryst mines at Lv. 5 between crushing shifts, Icelyn brings Handiwork 5 in a small body, and Foxcicle is the budget pick that doubles as your Ice Organ ranch. Remember that Cooling is a contested suitability — the Ancient Furnace, the Electric Cooler and every cold food box want the same Pals, so a base running the crusher usually needs two of them.
| Pal | Cooling | Size | Why bring it |
|---|---|---|---|
Bastigor | Lv. 8 | M | The only Lv. 8 Cooling Pal, and it carries Lumbering 6 and Mining 5 on top |
Frostallion | Lv. 7 | L | Second-highest Cooling, and the same Pal that drops 10 Ice Organ a kill |
Pierdon Cryst | Lv. 6 | M | Mining 5 as a second job, so it feeds the crusher the Ore it crushes |
Univolt Cryst | Lv. 6 | M | Lv. 6 in a medium frame, easier to get than the two above it |
Whalaska | Lv. 6 | XL | Lv. 6 Cooling plus Watering 5, but XL — only worth the footprint on a big base |
Icelyn | Lv. 5 | S | Handiwork 5 and Medicine Production 4 in a small body — the best all-rounder here |
Wumpo | Lv. 5 | L | Pure Cooling with no other suitability, so it never wanders off mid-queue |
Foxcicle | Lv. 4 | S | The early pick — Lv. 3 Ice Organ on the ranch pays for the coolant you spent |
Power and Placement
300 power is a mid-weight draw — more than a Sphere Assembly Line at 200, well under the Electric Furnace's 500 — but it is a permanent addition to your bill, and the crusher does nothing at all when the grid browns out. It also has to sit inside your base camp radius, so a remote mining outpost cannot host one unless you plant a Palbox there. The practical order is generator first, crusher second: get a Large Power Generator staffed before you place this, or you will watch a Cooling Pal stand next to a dead machine.
| Structure | Tech | Power draw |
|---|---|---|
| 42 | 100 | |
| 29 | 200 | |
| 54 | 300 | |
| 42 | 400 | |
| 44 | 500 | |
| 58 | 1,500 | |
| 50 | 2,000 |
Summary
Hit level 54, spend 2 ordinary Technology Points, and pay 50 Pal Metal Ingot, 30 Plasteel, 25 Cryogenic Coolant and 20 Corrosive Solvent — about 350 raw Ore once you trace it back, plus a ranch trio to cover the organs. Wire it to a generator, drop your best Cooling Pal on it, and feed it Ore for Paldium Fragment, dead spheres for a refund, and Small Pal Souls until they are Giant ones.
