How to Get the Ancient Farm: Level 78 and Best Pals
How to unlock the Ancient Farm in Palworld: the level 78 tech node and its 4 Technology Points, all four build materials with the raw pile underneath them, and the only Pals with the rank 6 Planting, Watering and Gathering it demands.

The Ancient Farm is the endgame plantation — one small indoor block that grows any crop, replacing the seven single-crop plots you have been squeezing into your base since level 5. This guide covers the level 78 unlock and what it really costs, all four build materials plus the raw pile hiding under them, the brutal rank 6 worker requirement, and exactly which Pals can meet it.
Ancient Farm at a Glance
Two things make this build unusual for an Ancient structure. First, it costs 4 ordinary Technology Points, not boss currency — only four techs past level 70 charge Ancient Technology Points, and this is not one of them, so you can buy it the moment you hit 78. Second, it draws no electricity at all. Of the 42 structures that need power, exactly one is in the Food category, and it is the Electric Kitchen — the Ancient Farm plugs into nothing. The catch is staffing: it demands rank 6 in three separate work suitabilities, which is the steepest worker gate on any food structure in the game.

| True cost | 50 Soralite, 100 Paloxite, 100 World Tree Holy Water, 100 Mythical Wood and 10 Ancient Civilization Cores once the ingots are broken down |
| Power draw | None — it runs without a generator |
| Workers | Planting rank 6, Watering rank 6, Gathering rank 6 |

How to Unlock the Ancient Farm
Hit character level 78 and spend 4 points on the Ancient Farm node in the Palworld technology tree. There are no prerequisite techs and no boss unlock behind it, which makes it one of the cheaper late nodes — the Ancient Material Synthesizer sitting on the same level 78 row wants 5, and the Ancient Hatchery at level 76 wants 8 Ancient Technology Points that only bosses hand out. If you are short on regular points, the pale statues scattered around the map are the fastest top-up; the Technology Points farming guide covers every source.
One node you should buy first is Paloxite Ingot at level 74, another 4 points. You cannot craft the farm's 50 ingots without it, and those ingots are the single biggest chunk of the build.
Ancient Farm Materials and Where to Farm Them
Three of the four materials come out of the World Tree, so this is really one long trip rather than four separate errands. Mythical Wood is the heaviest line at 100, and it is the one people underestimate — it only drops from World Tree field pickups at a modest rate, or in bulk from feeding relics into a recycler. Ancient Civilization Cores are the smallest line at 10 but the most annoying if you skipped the oil rigs, since those crates are the densest source in the game.
| Material | Qty | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | Crafted — 1 Soralite + 2 Paloxite + 1 World Tree Holy Water each, unlocked at Lv. 74 | |
| 50 | Field drops in the World Tree, 5-10 per pickup | |
| 100 | World Tree field drops (18.7% of pickups, 1-5 each), or recycling relics — 9-11 per Glistening Ancient Relic | |
| 10 | Oil rig crates (55.0% on the standard rigs, 44.1% on the large rig, 1-5 each), World Tree treasure chests at 100% for 1-3, or relic recycling |
Soralite: 226 Nodes on Palpagos
The ingots need 50 Soralite between them, and there are 226 Soralite nodes to mine — flip on the Soralite node layer on our map and pick the densest cluster near a fast travel point. Supply drops in Sunreach Isle also pay 30-40 a crate at 100% rate, and the hard Sunreach Isle expedition returns 30-50 per run over 60 minutes, which is the lazy option if your expedition team is already built. If you are settled in permanently, the Soralite Quarry structure at Lv. 72 turns it into passive income instead.
Paloxite and Mythical Wood: the World Tree Run
Paloxite and Mythical Wood share the exact same source list, so one sweep collects both. Field pickups in the World Tree cough them up at 18.7% for 1-5 apiece, which is slow going for a 100 + 100 order — the faster path is relics. Every relic grade recycles into both at 100% odds, scaling from 1-3 per Decayed relic up to 9-11 per Glistening one, so hauling relics home beats grinding pickups by a wide margin. The World Tree has 690 loot caches and 38 treasure chests to raid; open the World Tree loot cache map and run a loop, then feed the haul into the Ancient Relic Recycler. Caches refill about an hour after you empty them, so a good loop is a route you repeat rather than a one-off.
Best Pals for the Ancient Farm
This is where the build actually gets hard. Standard plantations ask for rank 1 in Planting, Watering and Gathering — practically any Pal qualifies. The Ancient Farm asks for rank 6 in all three, and across the whole roster only 6 Pals hit Planting 6, only 5 hit Watering 6, and only 7 hit Gathering 6. No single Pal covers all three, so you are building a three-Pal crew and one of those slots is going to hurt.
Planting Rank 6 and Above
Dandilord is the only Planting 8 in the game and the obvious pick if you have one, but it also carries Handiwork 6 and Medicine Production 6, so a base with one Dandilord tends to fight over it. Lyleen at Planting 7 is the better team player here because its Gathering 6 means it can legally cover two of the farm's three jobs by itself. Below those, Ophydia is Planting 7 with a splash of Watering, and the three rank 6 options are all Grass-types you can breed rather than hunt.
| Pal | Planting | Element | Why it works |
|---|---|---|---|
Dandilord | 8 | Grass / Dark | Highest Planting in the game; also Handiwork 6 and Medicine Production 6, so expect slot contention |
Lyleen | 7 | Grass | The efficiency pick — Planting 7 and Gathering 6 covers two of the three required jobs |
Ophydia | 7 | Grass / Water | Planting 7 with Watering 5, so a single handbook makes it a two-job worker too |
Carnibora | 6 | Grass | Cheapest way to clear the bar; nothing else on its sheet competes for the slot |
Mycora | 6 | Grass | Meets the bar and doubles as a Medicine Production 6 worker on the same base |
Silvance | 6 | Grass | Meets the bar, but its Medicine Production 8 makes it worth more at a clinic |
Watering Rank 6 and Above
Watering is the thinnest list of the three — five Pals total, and every one of them is a late-game catch. Shaolong is the only Watering 8 and the one to chase, since its Gathering 5 is a single handbook away from covering the harvest slot as well. Jormuntide and Neptilius both sit at 7 with nothing else on their sheets, which actually makes them ideal dedicated waterers — no other station in your base will try to steal them. The two rank 6 birds work fine but are usually better employed elsewhere.
| Pal | Watering | Element | Why it works |
|---|---|---|---|
Shaolong | 8 | Dragon / Water | Highest Watering in the game, plus Gathering 5 — one handbook off covering two farm jobs |
Jormuntide | 7 | Dragon / Water | Watering 7 and nothing else, so it never gets pulled to another station |
Neptilius | 7 | Water | Same single-job profile at rank 7; the rarest of the five to obtain |
Faleris Aqua | 6 | Water | Clears the bar and hauls with Transporting 5 during idle time |
Suzaku Aqua | 6 | Water | Clears the bar; a fine mount to keep on the roster between shifts |
Gathering Rank 6 and Above
Gathering is the widest of the three suitabilities overall at 109 Pals, but the rank 6 cut still leaves only seven. Jetragon tops it at 8, though parking the game's fastest mount in a farm is a hard sell. The practical answer is Lyleen again, or Venusa — Venusa is by far the easiest of the seven to get hold of, and Gathering 6 is Gathering 6 no matter what the rest of its sheet looks like. Hartalis is the pick if you also want your base logging, since it pairs Gathering 7 with Lumbering 7.
| Pal | Gathering | Element | Why it works |
|---|---|---|---|
Jetragon | 8 | Dragon | The ceiling for harvesting, but it is also the fastest mount you own — usually needed elsewhere |
Frostallion Noct | 7 | Dark | Gathering 7 with no competing suitability; a clean dedicated harvester |
Hartalis | 7 | Neutral | Gathering 7 and Lumbering 7 — the best dual-purpose body in your base |
Starryon Primo | 7 | Neutral | Single-job Gathering 7, so it will never wander off to another station |
Lyleen | 6 | Grass | Covers Planting 7 and Gathering 6 at once — the single most efficient Ancient Farm hire |
Lyleen Noct | 6 | Dark | Clears the bar and brings Medicine Production 7 for the rest of the base |
Venusa | 6 | Dark | Easiest of the seven to actually obtain; Handiwork 6 keeps it busy off-shift |
How to Hit Rank 6 If You Don't Have Those Pals
You do not have to breed the perfect roster. Applied work handbooks permanently raise a single Pal's affinity in one suitability by +1, which turns a rank 5 into a legal Ancient Farm worker forever. All three you need — Applied Planting Handbook I, Applied Watering Handbook I and Applied Gathering Handbook I — sell at the Medal Shop for 300 Dog Coins each, so 900 Dog Coins buys you a farm crew out of Pals you already own. They also turn up in late-region supply drops, with the best odds in Feybreak and Sunreach Isle at 8.3% per crate.
The two Pals worth spending a handbook on are obvious once you look at the lists: Ophydia sits at Watering 5, and Shaolong sits at Gathering 5. One book each and either of them covers two of the farm's three jobs on their own, which frees a base slot for something that actually needs it.
Ancient Farm vs Regular Plantations
The seven single-crop plantations cost 2 Technology Points each — 14 total — and each one is locked to a single crop forever, which is why a serious food base ends up as a field of plots eating your build area. The Ancient Farm replaces that with 4 points and one block that takes whatever seed you feed it. The trade is entirely in the workers: the plantations run on rank 1 labour, the Ancient Farm demands rank 6, so this is an upgrade for a mature base with a deep roster and a waste of materials on a young one.
| Ancient Farm | Single-crop plantations | |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock level | Lv. 78 | Lv. 5 to Lv. 36 |
| Tech points | 4 | 2 each, 14 for all seven |
| Crops per block | Any seed | One fixed crop |
| Worker rank needed | Planting 6 / Watering 6 / Gathering 6 | Planting 1 / Watering 1 / Gathering 1 |
| Build materials | World Tree tier — ingots, holy water, cores | Seeds, Wood, Stone and Aquatic Pal Fluids |
| Footprint | Smaller than a Berry Plantation, indoor-safe | Outdoor plots, one per crop |
| Power | None | None |
Note that the Skillfruit Orchard is a separate build at Lv. 71 for 3 points — the Ancient Farm handles food crops, not skill fruit, so if you want both you are paying for both. If you are still on plots and want more out of them, the plantation stacking guide squeezes far more yield out of the same footprint.
What the Ancient Farm Grows
The cycle is identical to a normal plot — plant, water, harvest — and every harvest pays out 10 of the crop regardless of which one you picked. What changes is the clock and the labour. Red Berries finish in 3 minutes for 13,500 work, while Onion takes 6.5 minutes and 63,000 work, nearly five times the effort for the same 10 units. Corn and Pumpkin are the outliers worth knowing about: both take 6 minutes but only 7,500 work, the cheapest labour cost on the board by a mile, which makes them the crops to leave running when your farm crew is thin. Full growth data for every crop lives on the Palworld crop and material farming page.
| Crop | Growth time | Yield | Work per cycle |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3.0 min | 10 | 13,500 | |
| 4.5 min | 10 | 22,500 | |
| 5.0 min | 10 | 33,000 | |
| 5.5 min | 10 | 45,000 | |
| 5.8 min | 10 | 51,000 | |
| 6.0 min | 10 | 7,500 | |
| 6.0 min | 10 | 7,500 | |
| 6.2 min | 10 | 57,000 | |
| 6.5 min | 10 | 63,000 |
Is the Ancient Farm Worth It?
If you are level 78 with a finished roster, yes — 4 regular Technology Points for a no-power block that grows anything and fits indoors is one of the better deals on the late tech tree, and reclaiming the space seven plots were eating is worth the World Tree run on its own. If your best planter is a rank 4 and your Dog Coin pile is empty, skip it for now and keep the plots; the materials are better spent on the Ancient Material Synthesizer on the same tech row. The farm is not faster than a plantation per crop — it is the same cycle in less space with fewer buildings, and the whole cost is paid in worker quality.
