Base Pal Management: How to Disable Work Suitabilities — Palworld Database

Base Pal management in Palworld comes down to one switch: you can turn an individual work suitability off on a single Pal, so a rank-6 hauler stops abandoning your chests to swing an axe. This guide covers where that toggle lives, what each of the 12 jobs costs you when it fires at the wrong moment, and the exact Pals whose second job is worth switching off.

Where Base Pal Management Lives

Every work-suitability toggle in the game sits on the Monitoring Stand. The first tier unlocks at Tech Lv 7 for a handful of Wood and Stone, which means base pal management is available long before you have Pals worth managing — build it the moment you unlock it. The two upgrades don't add new controls; they cut how fast working Pals burn SAN, which matters more the harder you push a full roster. If you only ever build one, the base stand already does the whole job.

How to Switch Off a Work Suitability

The toggle is per Pal, not per base, so two Wumpo in the same camp can run completely different job lists. Turning a job off doesn't lower the Pal's rank in it — the rank is still there on its work suitability sheet, the Pal just stops volunteering for that task:

  • Deploy the Pal from the Palbox first — a Pal sitting in storage won't appear in the stand's list.
  • Interact with the Monitoring Stand and pick the Pal you want to correct.
  • Prohibit the jobs you don't want it taking. Leave only the one you actually built it for.
  • Repeat per Pal. There's no global rule, which is the point — the same job can be allowed on one worker and banned on the next.

One caveat worth knowing before you go switching everything off: a Pal with every job banned will simply stand idle, and a station with no eligible worker never runs. Cut the distractions, not the coverage — if you ban Handiwork on your only Handiwork Pal, your assembly lines stop. Our work optimizer is the fast way to see which job ranks a roster actually covers before you start trimming.

Every Job You Can Turn Off

There are 12 work suitabilities, and they are not equally dangerous. A job's pull is roughly the number of base structures that call for it — Handiwork has 23 of them and Kindling has 17 (torches, fireplaces and candlesticks all count), so those two grab wandering Pals constantly. Lumbering has only 2 stations yet 63 Pals can do it, which is why the Logging Site is the single most common thief of a specialist's time. Transporting is the outlier: zero stations request it, because hauling happens on its own all over the base.

JobStations That Call For ItPals With the JobHighest Rank
Handiwork231098 — Solenne
Kindling17448 — Renjishi
Watering11468 — Shaolong
Planting8458 — Dandilord
Gathering81098 — Jetragon
Mining8578 — Aegidron
Cooling6388 — Bastigor
Medicine Production5438 — Silvance
Generating Electricity3258 — Orserk
Lumbering2638 — Celesdir Noct
Farming1294 — Dumud Gild
Transporting01407 — Knocklem

Read the middle column as a warning list. Any Pal that holds Handiwork, Kindling or Watering as a throwaway rank-1 or rank-2 side job is going to spend real time at those stations, because there are dozens of them scattered around a mature base. Farming is the safe one — a single structure, the Ranch, asks for it, so a Farming side job almost never pulls a Pal off task.

The Pals That Actually Need a Job Disabled

Of the 286 Pals that can work a base, 138 hold three or more jobs and 50 carry two or more at rank 5 or better. That second group is the problem set: when two jobs are close in rank, the game has no reason to prefer the one you care about, so the Pal takes whichever station it happens to be near. These are the ones worth a trip to the stand, with the job to keep and the job to ban.

PalKeepBanWhy It Matters
WumpoTransporting 6Lumbering 5, Cooling 5A rank-6 hauler that keeps getting pulled to the Logging Site by a rank-5 axe job
AnubisHandiwork 6Mining 6, Transporting 4Dead tie at 6 — nothing stops it drifting to the Ore Mining Site instead of your assembly line
KnocklemMining 7Transporting 7Two rank-7 jobs on one body; ban whichever your base already has covered
DandilordPlanting 8Handiwork 6, Medicine Production 6, Gathering 5The best planter in the game and it holds three more jobs at 5+ — the single biggest gain from one toggle
RenjishiKindling 8Handiwork 6, Gathering 5, Transporting 5Rank-8 Kindling wasted at a workbench, in a base full of 17 Kindling stations
BastigorCooling 8Lumbering 6, Mining 5Your whole cold chain depends on it; Lumbering 6 is strong enough to steal it outright
SilvanceMedicine Production 8Planting 6, Handiwork 6The top medicine worker, distracted by two rank-6 jobs
LyleenPlanting 7Gathering 6, Handiwork 5, Medicine Production 5Four jobs, all 5+ — it will do anything except stay on the plantation
SelyneHandiwork 7Medicine Production 6Rank-7 Handiwork is too scarce to spend at a medicine bench
FlaracleKindling 7Handiwork 6Handiwork's 23 stations will outbid your furnace every time
DupinKindling 7Handiwork 5, Medicine Production 4Same trap as Flaracle, one rank lower on the distraction
BlazamutMining 7Kindling 6Rank-6 Kindling is high enough that torches and furnaces keep winning
NecromusLumbering 6 or Mining 6The other oneA perfect tie — pick a side or it alternates
PaladiusLumbering 6 or Mining 6The other oneIdentical split to Necromus; treat the pair the same way
DualithMining 6Transporting 6, Lumbering 5Three jobs at 5+ on one Pal — the messiest worker in the game to leave unmanaged
VenusaHandiwork 6Gathering 6, Medicine Production 5Handiwork and Gathering tie at 6, and Gathering has plantations everywhere
Cryolinx TerraLumbering 6Mining 5, Transporting 4Only 2 Lumbering stations exist, so anything else it can do will win the race
OrserkGenerating Electricity 8Handiwork 3, Transporting 4Your generator cannot afford downtime for a rank-3 side job

If you only fix four of these, make it Dandilord, Renjishi, Bastigor and Orserk — each one is a rank-8 ceiling in a job that nothing else on your roster covers as well, and each is losing time to something a much cheaper Pal could be doing instead. The centaur pair are the opposite case: there is no wrong answer, just pick a lane so they stop switching.

Wumpo — the Hauler That Keeps Wandering Off

Wumpo carries Transporting 6, Lumbering 5, Cooling 5 and Handiwork 3, and its listed best job is Transporting. The catch is that its transport speed is only 150, so it's already the slow, heavy-load kind of hauler — every minute it spends at a Logging Site is a minute your chests don't get filled. Ban Lumbering and Cooling and it does exactly one thing. Wumpo Botan has the same shape (Transporting 6, Lumbering 5) and wants the same treatment.

Anubis — a Dead Tie Between Handiwork and Mining

Anubis is Handiwork 6 and Mining 6, with Transporting 4 on the side. Nothing in the game breaks that tie for you, and since Handiwork has 23 stations against Mining's 8, which one it lands on is mostly a question of base layout. Most players want the Handiwork — it's the job that gates crafting throughput — so ban Mining and Transporting and let a dedicated miner like Aegidron take the ore.

Renjishi — Rank-8 Kindling Stuck at a Workbench

Renjishi holds the Kindling ceiling at rank 8 alongside Handiwork 6, Gathering 5 and Transporting 5. It's the worst offender in a decorated base, because torches, candlesticks and fireplaces all register as Kindling structures — 17 of them in total — so the Pal looks busy while your furnace sits cold. Ban everything but Kindling and it stays on the smelting line.

Dandilord — Four Jobs, One That Matters

Planting 8, Handiwork 6, Medicine Production 6, Gathering 5, Transporting 3 — Dandilord is the most over-subscribed high-end worker in the game. It's the only rank-8 planter, and it's also good enough at three other jobs to be constantly elsewhere. This is the clearest single toggle in base pal management: ban the other four, keep Planting, and your farm output changes immediately.

Transporting Steals the Most Workers

140 of the 286 workable Pals have Transporting — just under half the roster — and no structure ever requests it. Hauling is triggered by loose output sitting on the ground, so any Pal with the job will drop what it's doing to run a delivery, no matter how bad it is at the running. That's fine on a rank-6 hauler. It's terrible on a rank-8 specialist with Transporting 2, and there are nine of those.

PalIts Real JobTransportingTransport Speed

SilvanceMedicine Production 82500
FlaracleKindling 72300

CarniboraPlanting 62330
SekhmetHandiwork 62375
SplatterinaHandiwork 62180
VenusaHandiwork 62200

Wistella is the sharpest example — Transporting 1, the lowest possible rank, on a Pal that's rank 6 at two genuinely scarce jobs. Splatterina is close behind at transport speed 180, slower than almost anything you'd deploy on purpose. Ban Transporting on all nine and hand the job to a real hauler: Knocklem and Eidrolon both move at speed 400, and Faleris Aqua hits 500 at rank 5.

Pals You Never Have to Manage

67 Pals have exactly one work suitability, which makes them immune to the whole problem — there is nothing to ban, because there is nothing else they can be distracted by. These twelve are the strongest single-job workers in the game, and every one of them is a slot you can fill and forget. If you're building a base you don't want to babysit, staff it out of this list first.

Aegidron and Jetragon are the two rank-8 specialists here, and they're both single-job — pair either with a managed Pal and you've covered two ceilings with one toggle between them. Eidrolon is the useful oddity: rank-6 Transporting as its only job, at speed 400, so it does the hauling nobody else should be doing.

TipBefore you assume a Pal is lazy, check the other causes first — a starving, sick or depressed worker looks identical to a badly assigned one, and no work order fixes it. The full checklist is in Pals Not Working: 9 Causes and How to Assign Pals to Jobs, and if SAN is the culprit, upgrading to the High Quality stand cuts the drain at source.

The Short Answer

Build a Monitoring Stand at Tech Lv 7, then go through your deployed roster and ban every job except the one you deployed each Pal for. The 50 Pals carrying two or more jobs at rank 5+ are where all the wasted time lives — Dandilord, Renjishi, Bastigor, Anubis and Wumpo most of all. Everything else can be left alone, and the 67 single-job specialists never need touching at all.
