Best Pals to Butcher: Top Drops and Meat Cleaver Setup — Palworld Database

Butchering converts a Pal you already own into its entire drop table, which makes it the only way to farm certain materials on demand instead of hunting for them. This guide ranks the 15 Pals worth the Meat Cleaver, gives the exact drops and rates for each one, flags the Pals that are a waste of a cleaver swing, and covers the conveyor that runs the whole thing while you are away.

Butchering at a Glance

Butchering pays the same loot a Pal drops when you defeat it in the wild, so the whole point is control: instead of hunting a level 55 alpha for one roll, you breed the Pal at home and cash in as many copies as you like. The gate is cheap — the Meat Cleaver shows up at technology level 12 for 2 points and costs pocket change to craft — so almost every run can start butchering long before the drops start mattering. The real cost is permanence: a butchered Pal is deleted, not knocked out, so anything with good passives or a spot in your team should never go near the prompt.

Best Pals to Butcher

Three things decide whether a Pal is worth butchering: does it drop something you cannot mine, buy or fish up; does it drop enough of that thing to matter; and can you produce more of the Pal cheaply. Aegidron wins on all three and takes the top slot — it is one of only two Pals in the game that drop Thermal Cores, and the other one breeds from nothing but itself. Tetroise Primo has the single richest haul on the list at roughly 66,000 gold of value per swing, almost all of it Emerald. The gold column below is what one average roll of the whole drop table is worth; compare it to the sale price of the same Pal, which tops out around 1,000–1,800 gold at level 50, and the case for the cleaver makes itself.

Aegidron — The Only Farmable Thermal Core

Thermal Cores come off exactly two Pals, and Jetragon is not a farm — it has no wild spawns, one alpha at level 70, and its only breeding pair is two Jetragons. Aegidron has the same problem on the map (no wild spawns, a single level 79 alpha) but 65 different parent pairs produce one, including a pair of Aegidron, so once you own two the cores become an assembly line. It also hands over a Giant Pal Soul every single time, and only four Pals in the game drop those at all.

Whalaska — The Coralum Ore Loop

Coralum Ore has three Pal sources and only one of them is realistic: Neptilius drops ten at a time but breeds from nothing but itself, leaving Whalaska and its Ignis variant as the ore you can actually mass-produce. Two ore plus five Coal make one Coralum Ingot, so a single butcher covers an ingot with change left over, and a Blazamut on the same line hands you ten coal per swing to pair with it. Whalaska is also the easiest Pal here to breed — 385 different parent pairs produce one, the fifth-widest breeding pool in the game — and there are 194 wild spawn spots if you would rather just catch a boatload.

Tetroise and Tetroise Primo — Gems by the Handful

The two turtles are the richest haul on the list and they split the job. Tetroise Primo drops an Emerald or two every time, and no shop anywhere on the map stocks Emeralds — 80 spawn spots and 58 breeding pairs are the whole supply. Plain Tetroise trades the Emerald for a Ruby but carries the full relic-and-gem tier on top, which is why its average haul still lands near 45,600 gold, and with 650 spawn spots it is one of the easiest high-value Pals in the game to stockpile. Both hand over a guaranteed Large Pal Soul, so neither swing is ever wasted.

Sekhmet — The Large Pal Soul Line

Thirteen Pals drop a guaranteed Large Pal Soul, but only three of them drop two, and Sekhmet is the only one of those three you can find in the wild — Ophydia and Frostallion Noct have zero spawn points between them. With 720 spawn spots and 144 breeding pairs, Sekhmet is the closest thing to an infinite soul tap, and souls are what actually move a Pal's attack and defense once its level is capped. It carries the full 10–20 Radiant Gem tier as well, so the same swings that feed your stat min-maxing also stockpile Awakening material.

Shadowbeak and Lyleen — Free Technology Points

The Innovative Technical Manual refunds technology points, and three Pals drop it at 10%: Shadowbeak, Lyleen and Lyleen Noct. Anubis rolls the same book at 5%. Shadowbeak is the better all-round butcher of the group because its other drops are things you normally have to manufacture — it is one of only two Pals that drop Plasteel and the only Pal in the game that drops Carbon Fiber — plus a guaranteed Large Pal Soul. Lyleen's edge is the medicine: 1–3 High Quality Recovery Meds per swing, which is most of that 47,576 gold average and a genuine saving on late-game crafting.

Mammorest — The One You Can Butcher Early

Everything above assumes a late-game box. Mammorest is the exception: its alpha sits at level 38, it has 968 wild spawn spots — more than any other Pal on this list — and 227 breeding pairs produce one. The haul is bulk rather than treasure, 5–10 High Quality Pal Oil and 5–10 Leather per swing plus two Mammorest Meat, and those two materials are exactly what a mid-game base burns through fastest. It still pays the full 10–20 Grass Radiant Gem tier, which is a lot of Awakening progress for a Pal you can farm at level 40.

Relics and Radiant Gems: The Payout Nobody Counts

Fifty Pals share an identical bonus tier on top of their headline drops, and it is the same fifty for both halves of it: a guaranteed 10–20 Radiant Gems of their element, and the whole Ancient Relic ladder from Decayed up to Glistening. That changes the maths on butchering completely. An Awakening Crystal costs 50 gems plus 10 World Tree Holy Water, so roughly four butchers of any one of those fifty Pals covers the gem half outright, and the relics they throw in feed the Ancient Relic Recycler for a second pass at the same materials. Sekhmet, Tetroise, Mammorest, Elgrove and Aegidron are all in that fifty.

Butchering Alpha Pals for Legendary Schematics

Twenty-four Pals carry a Legendary-grade schematic in their drop table at 3%, and it only comes off the boss version — the ordinary wild copy of the same Pal will never roll it. That 3% is the entire argument for capturing alphas instead of killing them: a captured alpha can be butchered for a fresh roll, and unlike the kill you get to pick the moment. Twenty-two of the twenty-four have a fixed alpha spawn on the map and thirteen of those sit at level 45 or below, so this is a mid-game loop, not an endgame one. Full locations for every one of these are on the legendary schematic locations guide, and the alpha Pal list has the level and coordinates for each spawn.

Pals You Should Never Butcher

The cleaver deletes the Pal, so the mistake is butchering something that would have paid you forever. Mozzarina is the classic trap — butchering it gives one Milk and two or three Mozzarina Meat, while the same Pal parked on a Ranch produces Milk indefinitely, and Milk is what every Cake and therefore every breeding cycle runs on. Mimog is the other one worth calling out: the game states outright that Dog Coins cannot be obtained by butchering it, so the 170–250 coins it carries only exist if you defeat it normally. Beyond those two, anything with good passives belongs in the condenser instead — ranking a Pal up consumes duplicates for permanent stat gains, which is usually worth more than one roll of loot.

How to Get the Meat Cleaver

The Meat Cleaver unlocks in the technology tree at level 12 for 2 technology points and needs three basic materials, so a copper-age base can already make one. Do not think of it as a weapon: 25 attack puts it near the bottom of the game's 79 melee weapons — it ties a Wooden Club — and its 300 durability is spent on butchering, not fighting. Keep it in a slot purely for the prompt, swap back to a real weapon afterwards, and craft a spare if you plan a long culling session.

Pal Disassembly Conveyor

Swinging a cleaver one Pal at a time stops being fun around the twentieth Whalaska. The Pal Disassembly Conveyor is the base structure that does it for you, and it is a genuine endgame build — technology level 56, 5 technology points, and a materials bill that assumes a working Pal Metal and Plasteel chain. Once it is up, breeding and butchering become one continuous loop: eggs hatch, duplicates go on the belt, materials land in your chests. Everything it needs is on the structures list if you want to price out the supporting production first.

How to Keep the Butcher Line Fed

Butchering is only as good as your supply of fodder, and there are three ways to keep it stocked. Same-species breeding is the reliable one — two of any Pal always produce that Pal, so a single pair of Aegidron turns into an endless Thermal Core supply once you own two. Wild catching is faster for the Pals with big spawn counts, and the interactive map will show you every spot for a given Pal. Alphas are the third source, and they respawn, so a captured alpha butchered for its 3% schematic roll is not a one-time event:

  • Breed duplicates — pair two of the same Pal in a Breeding Farm and every egg is another butcher; see how breeding works for the cake and incubation costs
  • Catch in bulkMammorest at 968 spots, Sekhmet at 720 and Tetroise at 650 are the highest-density targets on this list
  • Farm alphas — one capture per spawn, but they come back; the alpha hunting route by level orders them so you never overreach
  • Skip the low rolls — a Pal outside the fifty that pay the full gem-and-relic tier is worth far less per swing, so check its page before you commit
TipButcher at the base, not in the field. Hauls like Mammorest's 30–50 Decayed Ancient Relics plus 5–10 Leather will overweight you instantly out in the world, and anything you drop is gone. Stand next to a chest, swing, deposit, repeat.

Summary

Craft the Meat Cleaver the moment you hit technology level 12, then butcher only Pals you can replace. Aegidron for Thermal Cores, Whalaska for Coralum Ore, Tetroise Primo for Emeralds, Sekhmet for Large Pal Souls and Shadowbeak for technology points cover almost everything the cleaver is good for. Leave Mozzarina on the Ranch, kill Mimog rather than butchering it, and put anything with strong passives in the condenser instead.
