Palworld Fishing Guide: Best Catches, Rods, and Bait

Fishing looks like a side activity until you notice what's on the hook: boss-size catches up to level 79, the entire Coralum economy, and a pool full of subspecies you'd otherwise chase across the map. Here's what's genuinely worth casting for, which rod to build at each stage, and what all nine baits actually do.

What's Worth Fishing For

Three targets justify the hobby on their own. Whalaska (Lv 50–69) hands over guaranteed Coralum Ore per catch — the ore that gates the rod upgrades themselves — and its Ignis form runs Lv 71–79. Boss-size catches are the second draw: tougher, larger versions of the same species, topping out at level 79 with Whalaska Ignis, Solmora Lux, and Skutlass Ignis — some of the highest-level catchable Pals in the game, no boss arena required. And the third: the fishing pool is stacked with element subspecies (the base fishing database lists all 78 entries with odds and level ranges).

The Rod Ladder and Its Coralum Twins

Rods come in three tiers, and each tier has a twin: the base version, and a Coralum-upgraded variant that costs Coralum Ore or Ingots on top. That's the loop — fish with the base rod, feed Whalaska's ore into the upgraded twin, catch better things:

Bait choice is a real decision — the nine types split into bite-rate boosters, minigame helpers, and loot multipliers. Simple Bait is the mandatory floor; everything else tunes the experience:

The practical pairings: Risky Bait on farming runs where you can land the minigame in your sleep, Alluring when a boss-size shadow shows up and you can't afford to lose it, and Beginner for anyone still fighting the gauge.

Pond or Wild?

The base Fishing Pond trades exploration for exact odds — its Large pool tops out with Azurobe Cryst at an 11% pull and both Whalaskas in the mix, all at Lv 36–48. Wild spots go higher (that's where the Lv 50+ Whalaskas and the level-79 boss shadows live) and vary by region and water type — ocean, river, dungeon, and island spots each draw from their own pools. Almost everything bites around the clock; night-only catches are the rare exception, so fish whenever the mood strikes.
